Why Photography?

Being able to capture the things that I see in a way that also appeals to other brings me a sense of peace. I mostly like to photograph the beauty that I find all around me. This is usually nature, statues or other things that grab my attention. Nature definitely holds the most beauty for me, because it surrounds us and we should appreciate it.

A sunset on a long drive at the end of the day, a thunderstorm and how it looks, a butterfly, they all bring me happiness and make me want to pull out my camera to capture what I am seeing and to create almost a visual memory for myself. Going to a new place to explore and see what I find. I grew up in a small town where there wasn't much to do other than to just go outside, so wherever I go I like to find the parks and trails, historic places, creeks and streams, or even just a bunch of trees provide fascination and beauty.

Getting to share photos of things that I photograph also allows me to see what others see within it as well. Everyone reacts to imagery differently, what it means to me or reminds me of is not the same as what someone else will feel when they view it. The world is always changing and it may not even look the same when our children grow up, so for me it is a way to capture my present so that I can always remember the places I have been and what I have seen.
