When I first thought about being able to create things it honestly terrified me, because I am not a natural artist. I couldn’t even guarantee you a well-designed stick figure on paper if you asked me to draw something. I can think of things as fast as the roadrunner can meep meep away from the coyote, but it would be easier for me to write or describe what I am thinking instead of creating it myself at times. I have been able to surprise myself with applications like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Premiere Pro, which have shown me there is more than one way to design something.
Technology has made it possible for artistically challenged individuals like me to be able to create something that visualizes what we are thinking. For example, for me personally, I love tattoos, but I like them to tell my story and things that I have overcome. I used to have to rely on descriptions to try to convey what I wanted to an artist, or to google things, but you want to be original. Illustrator came in handy for this. I was able to create something to visually show how I wanted the piece to flow down my arm, compare what I was trying to achieve to pieces that already exist, and it was so much easier to show rather than tell what direction I wanted to go in.
Failure has never been something that I don’t expect. No one is just perfect at something. Even the smartest men and women that came before us had to have some failure to reach the next step. To create something out of nothing isn’t a one-step thing. It takes time, practice and failure to make progress and change. The goal is to not view your failures as the end, but instead to find what went wrong, make adjustments and continue on. We can’t let setbacks knock us down, we have to learn from them and keep going find the success at the end. There is always another way, we just have to be willing to find it.
