Netflix and Domestics

I need to be stimulated in other ways when I'm cleaning or doing other chores or activities that can become monotonous. For example, if I am folding laundry or washing dishes I will usually turn on a show on Netflix or other streaming platform that I can watch while completing my tasks. If I am doing research necessary for a project or assignment I will normally listen to music or a podcast while taking notes or doing my research.

I have pretty severe ADHD and it can be difficult to concentrate on certain things for hours on end. Even social media platforms give me access to different types of content that stimulate me while I do other things. Being in my home every day, almost 24/7 I have to find things that entertain me when I complete the same tasks nearly every day. Even doing my chores or errand in a different order does not change the monotony that starts to occur.

For me, having other visual or audio that I can have in the background allows me to better focus on tasks and activities without beginning to zone out or lose interest in a topic. Over the years I have found things that help my brain stay engaged with what I am trying to do. Being a mom isn't always easy when you get stuck in a certain rut or schedule. I try to keep things interesting or give myself incentives like I do my children when they have done a great job. I will reward myself by getting a coffee or a snack that I have been craving for getting more than I had planned done or got a good grade for a project that I had been worrying about.
